Spirit Creek show

Since Kevin has gotten a rather bad case of writer's block, I guess I'll be writing for the site for a while. But he will be actually updating, because I'm pretty much incompetent when it comes to computers. So don't worry folks, Dissention will move on...

Spirit Creek Review @ MSOE
5/4/02

Most bands that are as good as Spirit Creek, get swelled heads. They get a few friends, or phony fans that tell them that they are great, and then they become high on their own hype. They very rarely socialize with fans and only hang out with the slutty groupies who lick up their ball sweat. Spirit Creek, on the other hand, are not that way. All of the guys in the band are coolest, most down to earth guys you could ever want to run into. When I saw them last Saturday, I had a chance to experience them first hand. Before anything even happened, I was met with a nice handshake and greeting from Doug. (front man) He gave me a free CD, that ended up being free anyway, but I thought the gesture was nice. John (bass) saw that Jen and I had no place to put our coat and shit, so he grabbed it and put it with the bands gear. Then the 3 of us went into the place where the bands were doing their thing. We talked for about a half hr. John made a hasty exit though, when he ran to get another guitar when the one that belonged to the guy on stage, broke. The string broke actually. Later before they went on, I ran into John in the bathroom. He was getting his hands ready, putting some shit on them. He and I had a deep conversation. Well, as deep as you can have in a bathroom. We talked about likes and dislikes and music among a few other things. He even went so far to say that he "thinks I'm more than just a regular fan". Now I may be being nieve, but I think he acutlaly meant it. So off he went to get ready onstage. The show itself was what I have come to expect from them. Good solid rock show. I thouhgt it may have been hindered though, because I saw Doug had brought up a bottle of chloraseptic. His voice sounded great, but he looked to be in some pain when he was singing. The setlist included all of the songs from the "Call The Rain" EP. Most of the other songs were songs from the latter part of "The Masquerade". All great songs mind you. Then the encore was a new song called "Difficult To Bare". It was in the style, I think, of "Never Close your Eyes". It started out very melodic and nice. Then towards the end, there was a breakdown and it turned to something very hard rock. Drew (lead guitar) was playing his part at the end with a slide. When he got done, the thing kinda flew out at me. I dont know if he dropped it or what, but I snatched it up. Then Neo (roadie) came hunting for it. After the show, the winner of the battle of the bands was announced. Before that they announced the prizes. One of them being a free Spirit Creek show. Doug, who was talking to a few beautiful girls at the time, turned and was exclaiming "What?". Eric (management) came over to him... "By the way, we're giving away a free Spirit Creek show." "Gee thanks Eric!" A little bit later, I was snooping around for a set list. John couldnt find one, so I asked Doug. I could see tons of people were waiting to talk to him, so I just told him forget it. He was pretty insistant on finding one, but I was tired, so was he so fuck it, ya know? A handshake from Doug and a hug from John, and Jen and I were out of there. Doug and I have been trading emails since then. We are in an ongoing debate about who's better, Spiderman or Batman. We all know who's better so we wont waste anymore time on that. I signed up to be on the Spirit Creek street team, so now it's my job to spread the word. That being said go to...
